Nick, Lachelle, and Keyton are visiting for the summer. We have been plotting places to go and decided a visit to Bruneau Sand Dunes would be better this time of the year versus the summer. It was pleasant over-cast day and the wind wasn't too strong. We managed to get away at 9:00 am. We got to the "little dunes" across the parking lot from the lake and walked to the dunes. Keyton noticed right away that sand got in between his toes. We climbed to the top and the wind was blowing the sand up the dunes and over the top. Keyton didn't like the sand "stinging his legs and feet. So we walked back down and then did the trail around the lake as if to climb the big dunes. The desert was definitely in spring-mode and there were quite a few plants displaying their flowers. Instead of climbing the big dune, we kept going around the lake. Nick took Lachelle sideways up the big dune so that they could see the "bowl." Keyton, Becky and I continued around the base of the dune until we were directly below the bowl. I decided to climb up to the bowl at this point. Here's a picture of from the bowl looking over the lake and back at the little dunes:
While Nick, Lachelle, and I were at the top of the bowl, Becky and Keyton were playing in the sand.
Becky buried Keyton up to his waist in sand as you can see. When he would move his toes cracks would appear in the sand. They decided these were monsters.

On the side of the dune, it was difficult to walk because of the sliding sand. As you can see from this picture, it was a new experience for Keyton (or should I say Becky!)
This particular type of bush was in bloom all over the park. I thought it was beautiful. The Russian Olive trees even had fruit on them - dun colored berries.
We ate a picnic lunch. Emptied the sand out of our shoes and ended home. We arrived here at 3:00 pm. True to tradition, everyone slept on the way back except the driver.
